USBC Masters - Milwaukee, WI
(Nov. 14 - 20, 2005 )
The Masters was a week of medium scores. The left side appeared to
play a little better than the right, and it showed on the standings.
I used a few Aliens exclusively during qualifying. I played the lanes
a couple of different ways. Either right up 5,6,7 on the fresh oil,
and left of the third arrow when they broke down. The two Aliens were
drilled similar, one a little stronger than the other. I had no problems
striking during qualifying, finishing 11th out of 400+ bowlers, so
things are progressing. Both balls had a little shine added to them,
not much, just enough to get them through the front part of the lane.
The pins were located close to my ring finger, with an extra hole
on my axis. I played good during match play, but lost my carry in
the last game, with a devastating 7-10 split in the 8th frame of the
last game of my first match. Couldn't strike on the left lane in that
match, and eventually lost. Then I was paired against Wes Mallott
my second match, and his armswing is pretty loose right now and with
a lot of confidence. He shut me out in the 10th frame of the last
game, shooting 700+. All in all, a good week, and the confidence is
building. This game, once the mechanics and timing are in place, is
all about confidence. It isn't something that can be turned off and
on, it is something that gets built on. It's like building blocks,
just keep adding the blocks in a pyramid until you get to the last
one. The last one is a victory, and in my 23 years, I"ve only been
able to add the last one 23 times. Let's hope to add that last one
shortly! See you all next week.
