Chicago Classic - Vernon Hills, IL
(Nov. 23 - 27, 2005 )
The week in Chicago featured another close call. Missing cuts by 40
pins isn't much, a ten pin here or there. But in reality, one should
be far above those cuts when playing well. The shot was pretty much
inside all week, players started out playing around the third arrow,
and by the end of the blocks, guys were playing left of 5th arrow.
The lefties played around the second arrow, and the scores were relatively
moderate. I used a few different balls. Early, I was using a strong
Cheetah right out of the box, and later switched to the Aliens that
I had used the week before in the Masters. There was enough oil so
shine wasn't important.
It is my intention to continue to practice more, and develop more
natural ball speed. Getting those pins to fly around a bit more can
be the difference of leaving a ten pin or breaking up splits. It is
amazing sometimes to see how many off hits carry when players have
good ball speed. Persverence is crucial when developing ones game.
Understanding that results don't often come immediately requires patience
and optimism. I'm being patient and optimistic, things will come around.
