Empire State Classic - Clifton Park,
NY (Dec. 14 - 18, 2005 )
This week's shot in Clifton Park, NY was a little soft, meaning there
was a lot of margin for error, wherever players opted to play. Most
of the good scores early on the fresh oil came from right around the
first arrow. You could stay there as long as you wanted, just throw
it a little harder and inch over left. Or you could play around ten
with a little swing, move in and hook it, just about do anything you
wanted. I was a Scorpion during the fresh, a few games with my Cheetahs,
and then later when playing 5th arrow, I used an Alien. It took an
average of about 220 to make the cut, there were a lot of 300's, and
I qualified 16th, with two good solid rounds. During qualifying I
had crossed with Tony Reyes, and we ended up bowling against each
other. I knew how he was playing the lanes, and he knew how I was
playing them. I started out real good, shooting 279, and then I lost
my carry, and he was striking a lot. It was just one of those things,
couldn't buy a strike, but in my confused attempt to try everything,
I had drilled another Scorpion and Cheetah, and got a good feel for
some new stuff. All in all a good way to end the first part of the
season. I'm looking forward to the upcoming swing, there are a lot
of nice tournaments we go to, so look for me then.
