On
Tour with Brian Voss
Earl Anthony Medford Classic - Medford,
OR (Jan. 4 - 8, 2006 )
This weeks pattern featured a lot of oil. The scores were relatively
low, it only took 120 over to make the first cut. Most of the good
scores started out around the second arrow, going pretty straight.
After two or three games, everyone moved left of the middle arrow,
and we continued to migrate left. I was using Scorpions for most of
the round, but did use a Cheetah for a few games. I had two good rounds,
and somewhat cruised into the match play. Ended up pairing up against
Mike Wolfe, who was coming off a victory the last tournament in Albany.
We had a very competitive match, going down to the last few frames
of the last game. I chopped the 3 off of the 6 in the 9th frame, then
needing a double to force him to double, but I got the first one and
left a ten pin, so all he needed was a mark to win, which he got.
It can be a difficult climb out here. It takes so much to get through
the matches, just have to be patient. All in all, a good week, but
have to take it a step farther. It will be enjoyable bowling this
week in Southern Cal using the old retro format. 24 games of match
play after qualifying will be fun, so look for a good week from an
old retro player.
