On Tour with Brian Voss

Denny's World Championship - Indianapolis, IN (Mar. 20 - 26, 2006 )

Woodland Bowl, what a great bowling center to host our Players Championship! My thanks to the host staff. Anyways, good week, but a little short. We've played on this pattern for a few years now so I have a bit of feel for it. I have a good record on it, but still haven't won it since 1988. Started out a little slow in the first round of qualifying, only about 40 over. But the scores weren't that big, so I wasn't that far out. I was using Scorpions and Aliens drilled aggressive. There were a lot of ways to play the lanes, but the pattern was a little longer and flatter, so you had to make good shots. I moved up each round, and eventually ended up 15th. I had drilled a few Cheetahs with bottom weight, and they worked really good out of the box. Real smooth, and the surface matched up good. I was paired against Patrick Healey Jr., whose been bowling pretty good lately. We had some good matches, going to the tenth a lot. I left two solid 7-10's against him in the first game, one in the tenth frame to lose, not the right way to start. We went back and forth for a few games, and then he got me down 3-1. I got it going for the next few games, flirted with a 300 in game six, so another 7th game match was on the rise. I started out with a turkey, he with a spare and a turkey, then I leaked one a little, and split, then eased up on another for another split, and he kept striking all the way to the ninth frame to shut me out and end my bid. Tough tournament to win, but a good appearance. Only two weeks left. Ahhhh!
