Dexter Tournament of Champions - Uncasville,
CT (Apr. 5 - 9, 2006 )
The Tournament of Champions was the highest scoring event I've seen
in a long time. I don't agree with it, but you play the hand that's
given to you. I was paired against Mike Machuga the first match, a
tough draw. Not only because Mike's a great player, but because he's
a very good friend. This was his first T of C event, and he didn't
have it that morning. I was fortunate to catch him on a bad day. I
was using a Cheetah drilled strong, and didn't have any problem striking.
I eventually won the match 3-0. I was then faced up against Pete Weber,
who has been bowling real good lately. I knew I had to have my striking
clothes on. We had a great match, with some real high scores. He won
the first two games, and I won the next two. My lowest game for the
first 4 was 246, so there were a lot of strikes. The last game we
both started with the first 4 strikes. He left a solid ten pin in
the fifth frame, and I left a fast 8 (4-7). We both struck in frames
6-9, taking it down to the tenth frame. I left a solid ten pin the
first ball in the tenth, extremely disappointing. Of course, the fill
ball was a strike. He need to fill 19 in the tenth frame, and he struck
on the first ball, shutting me out and winning the match. It was like
as soon as he struck, it was the end of the season, and hopes of finishing
on a really good note were gone. I don't agree that this tournament
the way it is structured should be a major, it was more like an end
of the year event for the recent champions, not a major in any standards.
I hope the PBA looks back on this event, and reconsiders the format
and calling it a major. So, the end of the season is upon us, and
6 months off will be nice. But you can expect that during the off-season,
I will be working hard on a few things, mainly some strengthening
routines. Thank you all for taking the time to read these weekly reports,
and I hope you try the products that I have used.
